Looking at it and holding it, the reason is clear. The long blade was forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. This steel, with its exceptional edge holding and bity, razor edge is felt by many to be among the best steels for knives. The satin finish is meticulously performed and shows off great skill. The oval guard and ferrule are both formed from 416 stainless steel and lead into the fossil walrus ivory handle. The handle is formed from a single piece of walrus tusk that PJ has saved for 25 years before finding a knife that was worthy of this piece of ivory. Caramel and chocolate stripes move across a cream toned background. The coloration is very deep and allowed PJ to sculpt the handle for a perfect fit and the hand. The central core of the ivory is reveled at the base. Exceptional work throughout!
